Volunteer with Us
Decatur Lunar New Year started in 2022 as a small PTA event for families at our elementary schools. Today it welcomes 4,000 people, and it still runs on the same thing: parents, neighbors, students and friends who show up to make it happen. Come help us welcome the Year of the Goat!
- Sunday, February 7th, 2027. Festival runs 11-5pm (longer hours!). Volunteer shifts start at 7am.
- Ebster Courtyard @ Beacon Municipal Center
(404 W Trinity Place; Decatur, GA) - If the weather makes it unsafe to hold our event, our raindate is Sunday, February 28, 2027.
A Festival for All of Decatur
Decatur Lunar New Year is about sharing the traditions of Vietnam, South Korea, China, Thailand, Japan and the Philippines with our whole community. It's a day to build understanding, trust and appreciation between neighbors, and at the end of the day, more love.
Over the past five years, our children and friends have noticed a real change in what it feels like to be Asian American in Decatur. We believe this festival has had a hand in making Decatur a warmer, more welcoming place, and that's thanks to the countless volunteers of every background who come together to make it happen.
This year we're growing to a full six hours, so we need more hands than ever. Whoever you are, there's a place for you on our team.
Your time goes further than one Sunday, too. All proceeds benefit Asian American Voices for Education (AAVEd), which brings Asian American history into Georgia classrooms.
Early Birds Needed!
Our biggest need is in the morning, before the gates open. Dozens of vendors arrive between 7 and 10:30am, and we need people to direct traffic, keep the unloading area moving, point drivers to parking, and keep an eye on vendors' things while they park. If you're a morning person, this is where you can make the biggest difference.
We'll have coffee and pastries from Pastries A-Go-Go waiting for our early birds!
